Breakfast With The Bishopric

We've been wanting to get together for awhile. Julie took the initiative and planned a early morning breakfast on Saturday. Pictured is me and David, Bishop and Julie, and Gary and Bonnie. Even though it was really early, we had a great time visiting and getting to know one another better.

Afternoon Snack

Today when Graham got home from school, he asked is he could prepare a snack for him and the girls.
"Come get your enchiladas girls!" They all went running into the kitchen. I had to think for a second and try to recall the last time that I made enchiladas, realizing that it had been a long time and there was no way there was leftovers in the fridge even close to enchiladas.
Graham climbed up on the counter to reach our little serving bowls and went to the fridge. He took out a couple small containers of pina colada yogurt. The world enchilada does sound a lot like pina colada. Good job Graham at serving the afternoon snack!

Long Overdue

I think it's time to get Harvey groomed. Poor guy can hardly see!

I Am The Next American Idol

One of my favorite shows is back on the air. We have been making time to watch it. This morning while I was making breakfast, out of the blue Carmen said, "Mom, you should be on American Idol."
Isn't it sweet that at that age kids think their parents are pretty much super heroes? I can do anything in her eyes. I don't think I will tell her that I can't sing. I will let her figure that one out on her own. :)

Shattered Dreams

Graham went on a field trip today to the local ice skating arena. He was ecstatic this morning when he woke up. He came to me and said, "I feel like it's my birthday today!! That's how excited I am!" He reminded me to remember to send the money, pack his mittens in his backpack, and send him with his booster seat for the bus (by law). During breakfast he said, "This is going to be the best day ever!" Now remember that last time the 1st graders went on their field trip, to the bowling alley, Graham wasn't allowed to go because he didn't have enough "good behavior" points. So being that it was his first ever field trip in 1st grade, this was going to be amazing!!
When I saw Graham after school, that wasn't the case at all. In fact, he seemed a little down. I asked him how it went and if it was everything that he expected it to be. "Well......" He started to explain to me what a horrible time he had. Some of the reasons included:

  • He got two splinters (blisters)
  • He was the only one that was falling down
  • He cried when he fell the last time because it felt like he broke his knee cap
  • He took his socks off before he put on his skates because he noticed other kids were doing that as well.

So I asked him again, "Are you glad you went? Did you have a good time." He looked at me after thinking for a second and said, "No."

Sometimes the anticipation of something is much better and fulfilling than the actual event. I don't think ice skating is his thing. I should have known since I learned a couple years ago that rollerskating wasn't his thing either. I am sure that the next field trip will be better as long as they can keep their feet on the ground.

It's Japanese For "Little Knitted Toy"

I just got this book off of Amazon for way cheaper than my sister-in-law saw it at Borders. It's a book full of Amigurumi patterns. What is Amigurumi you may ask? It's Japanese for little knitted toy. I originally found Ana Rimoli on Etsy and I love her stuff. I can't wait to try these patterns and my kids have already asked when they get one. Now I just have to find the time.

Intrigued

Watching Graham paint must be really interesting.

Keeping Up With The Jones's

My sister Becky Jones and her family came down this weekend to visit. We had a good time with them. Thursday night I babysat their kids while they they went to a meeting. The kids are all around the same age, so they do great playing together.

That night, me and my sisters went to Twilight. Becky had never seen it. She didn't have to pull our legs too hard to get us to want to go again. We went to the late show, so as you can see, we got a little crazy with the Edward outside the theater! It was a fun night to go out together.

When we got home, we found David and Wes playing a computer game. It was so funny. We thought they would be asleep, but they actually ended up going to sleep much later than we did!

Friday night we all got babysitters and went out for Thai food. Mmmm the chicken curry was delicious!

The Cure For A Headache

A couple of years ago, David had to run a 5k for his PE class. I signed up for the race and we ran it together. Later that afternoon, he got so sick with the worst migraine headache. I have never seen him in so much pain. He was in bed for the rest of the day.
Yesterday he started to feel that headache coming on again. He took some Excedrin and went to lie down. I panicked and went to the computer for ideas to cure a migraine headache. I came across a website that said to mix 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp honey, and 8 0z water. So I mixed the concoction and brought it to David. It was only an hour later that his migraine was completely gone!! Something to think about the next time you feel a headache coming on. Oh, but there was one side effect....a really rumbly tummy.

She Does Hair

I have heard about this blog before, but I have never done any of the hairstyles. It was fun to try it out. I was having a great time doing Morgan's hair. It wasn't so fun when I got to Carmen's. She screams the whole time saying it hurts, even if I am not even touching her hair. You can tell by looking at the pictures who enjoyed it the most. The blog is shedoeshair.blogspot.com. There are a lot of cute styles to try if you have a little girl and she is patient enough for you to touch her head. :)

Cleaning Out My Closet

We have done a lot of re-arranging lately in our house. Everything that wasn't being used got thrown into the playroom in the basement. When I heard Becky and Wes were coming to visit, I wanted them to have their own space. That gave me an incentive to start organizing. Not only did I make the playroom into a guestroom again, but I threw a bunch of toys away in the process. Aahh! It felt so good. How did we get so many little worthless toys?

After:

Everthing is organized and has a place. We'll see how long that lasts!

A Little More Than Just A Flu Bug

Meet my brother Andy. He's awesome. His first words, "Turtle Power". He has always been such a hard worker and always been willing to help anyone that needs it.

Today I got a call from my mom telling me that Andy had been feeling really sick, and had just been admitted to the ER for an emergency appendectomy. Everything went ok. Good luck Andy with your recovery! We love you and we're praying for you brother!

My First Triathlon!!

So it's official. I signed up for my first Triathlon and I am excited about it. I have run many races, but I have never biked or swam in a race. I have been swimming since October and feel like I am getting a grip on it. I have until April 18th to be ready. Whew!
