Charles James Packer

James and Laren had their sweet baby boy last Wednesday, May 15th.  He came earlier than was planned.  Just a few days after we threw the shower.  It was almost like Laren could finally relax.  She had just finished her student teaching and after the shower she said, "I feel like everything is ready now."  We are so happy for them and this darling little addition to our family.  Congrats James and Laren!

She's 9 Months!

Weekend Getaway....Kind Of

We headed to Idaho last weekend to help mom throw a shower for my sweet SIL Laren.  She only has two weeks to go before she and James get to meet their little boy, Charles.  We're so excited.  The shower was on Saturday, which was also our 12 year anniversary!  So mom and dad watched the kids for David and I so we could go stay somewhere overnight.  It was a blast!  We stayed in Idaho Falls.  We spent the afternoon hanging out and really doing whatever we wanted.  :)  We went and saw Iron Man 3.  It was good, but I couldn't get over the fact that people had their little kids there.  It was scary for those young kids!     We went to dinner at a place called Wasabi.  It was on the green belt by the river.  Yummy!  Thanks to James for the recommendation.  :)  Then we stayed in The Residence Inn.  It was so fun and the time went by too fast.  Sunday morning we got a text from our tenant.  He said Harvey was barking the night before and someone called the cops.  The officer came and listened and removed Harvey from the property and took him to the pound, "doggy jail".  I was so worried for Harvey.  It serves him right for barking, but man, I really wish my neighbor would've contacted us instead.   Monday morning I headed out to Spanish Fork to pick him up.  I had to go identify him and $65 later, they released him to me.  I talked to the officer on the phone and made sure that we weren't violating any laws by leaving him contained in the backyard if we go out of town.  He reassured me it was fine, but it's only when he's bothering others that it becomes a problem.  We won't do that again.  ;)

Here are a few pics of the weekend:
The shower was a mustache/bowtie theme.  This is Charles' donation jar.

Everyone got a bowtie to wear and a chocolate mint sucker to take home:

The Next Chapter

A lot has been going on with us lately.  David has finished up his coursework and is finishing up his thesis now.  We're shooting for graduation day, June 20.  We have been interviewing for jobs the past month or so.  We interviewed at a RTC (residential treatment center) in Roosevelt, Utah.  Have you been there?  We had heard about it and thought we would all go check it out the day David interviewed.  There isn't much to say about the town except that it is a small place where a lot of the people work in the oil fields so the homes for rent and sale are crazy pricey.  Oh, and we had heard from more than one that there is a lot of meth there.  :/ Yikes!  David loved the treatment center.  He would have a nice office.  Give therapy to the boys and girls who live there and he loved the staff.  They offered him the job.  We let them know we would be in touch because we had a few other interviews lined up.  Not a lot of money, which is expected since he would be working toward licensure, so it's expected.  On the way home we talked and talked.  I just wasn't feeling the town at all, but if David loved it and wanted to work there, I would tough it out, or we could even live in Vernal and he could make the 30 minute commute every day.
The next week we interviewed in Cornish, Utah.  That's north of Logan.  In fact, so north that you are right on the border of Idaho.  7 miles from Preston.  This was another treatment center.  We hung out at Becky's house the night before in Honeyville.  The next day she watched the kids while we went over to the interview and check things out.  I took Graham and Reese with us.  The other three had a ball at their cousin's.  We loved the area, loved the treatment center, loved the clinic director and his closeness to the spirit.  It was all great, but just a little low pay.  We felt like if this is where we are supposed to end up, God will provide a way for it to happen.  The clinic director offered it to David and said he would love to have David long term and eventually make him a clinic director with him once things start to grow.  David told him he would talk with me and we would get back to him soon.
This last week David interviewed in Murray, which we could easily commute from here for.  It was for a part time counseling position.  He would be giving therapy just a couple nights a week and this would help him to get his hours for licensure.
David got a call from Anthony, a friend in the PhD program over at BYU.  Anthony was heading to an interview in Mt Pleasant (up by Manti) when he got a phone call from LDS Family Services offering him a job working as a part time therapist.  It was the job he wanted so he was about to turn around and not go to the interview when he thought, no I'll go and check it out and see if there is someone that comes to mind that I can recommend for the job.  Once he got up there he realized it wasn't just for the therapist position, but for the clinic director position!  He said the whole time he was interviewing, David kept coming to mind.  He felt David would be perfect for it.  He came home and got ahold of David and David sent his resume right over.  This was this last Friday.  They got right back to him and asked him to come on Monday for an interview.  Yesterday we all went up and checked it out.  They offered him the job to be the clinic director!  We feel very fortunate since this is way not something that you get offered right out of the program.  We decided to take it!  Kind of a no brainer.  We're close enough that David can commute for awhile while we try and figure out our living situation.  We really are thrilled to say the least.  David is a little nervous about all his responsibilities, but I have no doubt that he will stretch and grow and do an amazing job.

Since they want him to start asap, here begins our next chapter!
